Vardenafil is a phosphodiesterase type 5 (PDE5) inhibitor, which affects the blood vessels of penile tissue. The drug relaxes the muscles found in the walls of blood vessels, therefore increasing blood flow. This results in a stronger, longer-lasting erection. Unlike its competitors, vardenafil may also be effective in treating premature ejaculation. This drug does not stop or prevent pregnancy or sexually transmitted diseases, such as HIV, herpes, gonorrhea, syphilis, or hepatitis B. Those taking vardenafil will still need to practice safe sex to prevent pregnancy and disease. Vardenafil will also not cure erectile dysfunction or impotence, it only treats the problem. If you stop taking vardenafil, the issue will return.
